Interviewer: I'm here with the founder and creator of the jewelry label NALIN studios, Anna Lindeman. Can you tell us a little bit about how you got started in the jewelry business?
Anna: Absolutely! I have always been interested in fashion and jewelry since I was a child. I started my career in jewelry design after finishing my job as a womenswear fashion designer, and it was then that I realized I wanted to focus my attention on creating unique pieces that I could call my own. I wanted to create something that was truly special, personal and could be enjoyed by others, so I started NALIN studios.
Interviewer: First of all I am seeing something completely different in your shop today? Candles? Tell me more!
Anna: Yes I know, haha. I wanted to create something playful, just for fun. I created this candle collection especially for the holidays. I wanted to create a scented candle collection that was both visually appealing and aromatically stimulating. Each candle features a unique hand-drawn illustration inspired by words that I wrote down in my notebook. The collection is designed to bring warmth, relaxation, and a sense of comfort to any environment. The collection offers a variety of scents ranging from Spiced Pumpkin Ginger and Eucalyptus Lavender Herb to Vanilla Bean, to ensure that there's something for everyone. The perfect personal holiday present. The candle collection is only available in the USA and Canada for the moment.
Interviewer: That's awesome! What was the creative process like for you when creating your pieces?
Anna: My main focus is to create modern and timeless pieces that could be worn for any occasion. I begin by sketching out ideas and creating prototypes, and then I would go through the process of refining the designs until I was happy with the end result. I also wantto make sure that the materials I use are ethically sourced, so that is something I am payng close attention to as well. I traveled to the South of Spain and it was there where I made my first contact with a small family atelier that was specialized in making jewelry in the old school way.
Interviewer: What would you say sets NALIN studios apart from other jewelry brands?
Anna: The biggest thing that sets NALIN studios apart is our commitment to creating unique and original pieces. We focus on creating pieces that are personal, modern and timeless, and that can be worn for any occasion. We put a lot of attention into the quality of our materials and the craftsmanship of our pieces, All our pieces are handmade using a lost-wax casting technique, which preserves the pendant's intentional imperfections and ripples, which is something that I think sets us apart from other brands.
Interviewer: What have been some of the biggest challenges you have faced in starting and running your business?
Anna: The last two years have been a challenging period for me personally, but I am so grateful for the lessons it has taught me. During this time, I took a step back to reflect on life and the things that truly matter to me. I took some time off to find my creativity and reconnect with my passions, and it was worth it! Now, I am inspired again and ready to continue on my passionate journey. I feel fortunate for the experience and to have been given the opportunity to reflect on what brings me joy and purpose. I am excited to move forward and continue to create and share my ideas and designs with my dedicated followers.
I am really grateful that NALIN studios has grown a cult following over the past years. My followers managed to keep supporting me also over the last two difficult years. This gave me the strength to pull trough and to keep pursuing what I love. I am really grateful for that.
Interviewer: What is your focus for the next year for NALIN studios? We can’t wait to see your new designs by the way!
Anna: For the next year 2023, the focus for NALIn studios is to create timeless designs that are modern, yet classic. This is so important for me. I want to drop new small collections that I feel strongly passionate about. I want to create pieces that are sophisticated, but in a modern way and yet they are timeless at the same time. I am also looking to expand the range of materials and colors, so that our customers can accessorize any look with ease....And perhaps an inspiring collaboration with my designer friends! I can’t wait to show you the new pieces.☺
Interviewer: What advice would you give to aspiring jewelry designers and entrepreneurs?
Anna: My advice to aspiring jewelry designers and entrepreneurs would be to start small, focus on quality, and be willing to put in the hard work and dedication necessary to make it a success. Research the industry, stay up to date, and actively network with other jewelry designers and entrepreneurs to stay informed. Take advantage of online resources and tutorials to help improve your skills, and always strive to provide unique, quality pieces that customers will love. Finally, don’t be afraid to dream big—with the right attitude and work ethic, anything is possible.
Interviewer: What do you think the future of the jewelry industry looks like?
Anna: The future of the jewelry industry looks bright, with an increasing feel towards personalization and customization in jewelry, as well as the introduction of new materials and technologies that are allowing for more innovative designs. There is also a growing focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing, which will likely result in more conscious consumer decisions. Additionally, the use of digital marketing and online sales channels will continue to revolutionize the industry, offering new opportunities for businesses to reach a larger audience.
